As part of its environmental strategy, the Championship places particular emphasis on the use of certified technologies, bio-based and sustainable fuels, biodegradable oils and other environmentally responsible solutions. All environmental activities are carried out in accordance with the UIM Environmental Code, supporting the Championship’s long-term commitment to responsible and sustainable development within the sport.

CERTIFIED TECHNOLOGIES

The UIM MotoSurf World Championship places strong emphasis on the development and use of certified technologies designed to support safety, reliability and environmental responsibility in motorized surf racing. The motorized surfboards used in competition are equipped with technologies and components meeting internationally recognized certification requirements, including CE, EPA and CARB standards, where applicable. These certifications demonstrate compliance with applicable requirements for product safety, emissions and environmental performance. The equipment is designed to meet the most stringent applicable emission and safety standards while maintaining high levels of performance and reliability. Through the continuous development and implementation of certified technologies, the UIM MotoSurf World Championship supports innovation, responsible technological development and higher environmental standards within the sport.

BIOLOGICAL FUELS

The UIM MotoSurf World Championship is progressively transitioning towards the use of advanced bio-based fuels with the aim of significantly reducing the net greenhouse gas emissions associated with racing activities. As part of this transition, the Championship has already successfully introduced these fuels in selected international competitions, demonstrating their practical application under demanding racing conditions. Bio-based fuels have been used at events including The World Games 2025 and the Marbella Gran Premio de España, providing valuable experience and data for their further implementation across the Championship. This ongoing transition represents an important step towards reducing the environmental footprint of MotoSurf racing while maintaining the performance, reliability and competitive standards required at the highest level of the sport.

BIODEGRADABLE OILS

The UIM MotoSurf World Championship is committed to protecting the aquatic environments in which its events take place and therefore uses exclusively biodegradable lubricants for racing activities. In accordance with UIM regulations, the Championship provides standardized fuel and lubricants to all competitors, ensuring consistent technical and environmental standards throughout the competition. As part of this approach, the Championship exclusively uses TotalEnergies NEPTUNA BioJet biodegradable lubricant, specifically selected to minimize the potential environmental impact of racing activities on water ecosystems. This measure forms an integral part of the Championship’s environmental strategy, with the objective of preventing persistent lubricant residues from remaining in the water after racing events and ensuring that the sport is conducted with the highest possible level of environmental responsibility.

IMPROVING QUALITY OF WATER ECOSYSTEMS

The UIM MotoSurf World Championship recognizes the importance of maintaining healthy aquatic ecosystems and actively considers the interaction between racing activities and the water environment. The movement and propulsion generated by motorized surfboards contribute to the circulation and aeration of the water, supporting the exchange of oxygen between the water and the atmosphere. According to data obtained through research conducted in connection with the Championship, the cumulative effect of this natural aeration and water movement is estimated to support the restoration of up to 4 million litres of water to conditions consistent with a healthy aquatic ecosystem. Combined with the Championship’s use of biodegradable lubricants and its commitment to responsible environmental practices, this approach demonstrates how MotoSurf events can actively contribute to the responsible use and preservation of aquatic environments.
